Summer Water Safety Tips with Swimz Swimming School

Summer is around the corner and warmer weather means days spent outside and in the pool! Being around water is fantastic for children, but it comes with the danger of drowning. Water safety and learning to swim for little ones is an essential and a non negotiable requirement that every parent should focus on. 

 

This summer we’ve partnered with our friends at Swimz Swimming School to share swimming safety tips to employ this summer. We’re also giving away some swimming lessons! 

 

Located in the Westlake Lifestyle Shopping Centre, Cape Town, Swimz teaches babies from as young as six weeks with their Mommies or Daddies. Classes are done in groups which creates the perfect opportunity for parents to spend time and bond with their babies and also meet other parents. Classes are fun, educational and most important of all promote safety.

 

Swimz follows an internationally accredited and proven Learn to Swim curriculum. Kiddies Learn to Swim with confidence within a happy environment allowing them to appreciate the world of swimming and the multitude of benefits it offers. 

 

In addition to baby classes, Swimz offers swimming lessons for kids up to 15 years, from beginners to the more experienced swimmers. They focus on water safety, learning to swim and stroke correction. Swimz also offers weekly adult Aqua Aerobics classes as well as specialist Hydrotherpy classes for special needs children.

 

Lessons are spread out between the four school terms, and holiday workshops are available for your kids during the school holidays. You can even hold you next child’s birthday party.

 

5 Water Safety Tips to Remember 

 

  1. Watch your kids all the time whenever they are around water.  If more than one adult is present elect a dedicated “Water Watcher”.
  2. Make sure older kiddies who are able to swim, don’t swim alone.
  3. Ensure pools are fenced off appropriately with a self latching gate.
  4. Babies can drown in 1 cm of water! Empty baths, buckets, containers, kiddies pools etc immediately after use.
  5. Learn CPR – it may save a child’s life! You can find a course here
